Information about Lead (Pb):

Lead is a natural, soft, heavy metal that is easily carved, cut and hammered. The chemical element lead is a metal with an atomic number of 82 and an atomic weight of 207.2. It belongs to heavy metals and has a higher density index than common materials. It has a specific gravity of 11.3 and melts at 327 degrees Celsius. Properly used lead is a very useful metal and in some cases irreplaceable. The levels of lead in the blood increase and poisoning (molybiosis) occurs during the sublimation of the metal and not during its placement. Lead products are completely safe for their users. Lead is an excellent sealant with an extremely long life and this is due to the thin layer of hydroxide created by the lead which protects it from further oxidation when wet. With its density index, it is widely used as an insulating material against noise, vibration and as a barrier against radioactivity. For centuries lead sheet's ease of forging and cutting has made it the most suitable material for roofing. Its color and characteristically soft appearance harmonize perfectly with the rest of the roofing materials. Malleable, it is easily worked by artisans at normal temperatures and can form complex designs using only hand tools.
